Miles vs. Stride
Stride is the free mileage tracker app most people find first, and it is free in full. There is no paid tier. It tracks unlimited trips, logs expenses, connects to your bank, and estimates your deductions, and it is funded by referrals from its health and other insurance marketplace. Drives are stored on Stride's servers. Miles costs $9.99 a month, stores drives on your iPhone and in your own iCloud, and produces the IRS and CRA figures for your return.

The structural difference
Stride's tracker is free because the company earns referral revenue when users buy insurance through it, and the tracker's data lives on Stride's servers under your account. Miles earns its revenue from the subscription. It stores drives on your phone and in the CloudKit database of your own iCloud account, and Slipway operates no location servers.
What you pay Miles for
Both apps detect drives without a cap. Miles adds the Publication 463 record elements with odometer readings and year totals, the Table 5-2 log layout, the Schedule C line 9 and Part IV answers, a filled Form 2106, the CRA logbook modes for Canada, and the both-methods deduction comparison. It also runs as an iPhone app with a Live Activity during drives, Shortcuts, a widget, and the share sheet for every export.
When Stride is the better choice
Stride is the better choice if you do not want to pay for a tracker, if you are on Android, or if you want the bank connection and the insurance marketplace. If you want an iPhone app that keeps your log in your own iCloud and produces the tax-form figures for the United States and Canada, Miles covers that.
Switching
Export your Stride trips before you stop using it. Miles imports a CSV of past trips so the year stays complete. Review note. CSV import of past trips needs a product decision.
