Canada logbook

The video for the CRA logbook page. Sam's second Civic has its tax region set to Canada. The app tracks in kilometres, keeps a full logbook for a base year, then a three-month sample, and shows the projection.

Setup

  • Miles installed with a second vehicle, "Civic (Canada)", tax region Canada, with a full 2025 base year in the fixture (business use 49%) and April to June 2026 as the sample period (business use 51%, base year same period 46%).
  • Home is in Vancouver, British Columbia for this script.

Scenes

Scene 1. Kilometres (0:00–0:10)

  • On screen. Vehicles, "Civic (Canada)", "Tax region · Canada". Drives shows "Home to Burrard Dental · 6.8 km". The Drive detail screen shows date, destination, purpose, and kilometres.
  • Narration. "Set the vehicle's tax region to Canada and the log is kept in kilometres, with the four things the CRA asks for. Date, destination, purpose, and distance."

Scene 2. The odometer (0:10–0:18)

  • On screen. Vehicles, "Civic (Canada)", "Odometer, Jan 1, 2026 · 58,120 km" and "Odometer, Dec 31, 2026 · (reminder set)".
  • Narration. "The odometer reading at the start and end of the year is part of the record."

Scene 3. Base year and sample (0:18–0:36)

  • On screen. Reports for the Canadian Civic. "Logbook · Base year 2025 · Business use 49%". Below, "Simplified logbook · Apr–Jun 2026 · 51% · Base year same period 46% · Projected 2026 business use 54% · Within 10 points of the base year". The projection line is green.
  • Narration. "After a full base year, the CRA lets you keep a three-month sample and project the year. Miles does the arithmetic and tells you if the sample drifts more than ten points from the base year, which would mean starting a new full logbook."
  • Capture notes. Zoom on the projection line and hold 3 s.

Scene 4. T2125 (0:36–0:45)
